The book does have these issues but it did not affect my enjoyment of it. A bit of background and / or history would have helped, but the "lack of" was not a negative for me. I was fine with just Wiley and Ashtown and the Rurals. We get to see a little of the other versions of these places and people, so I didn't think we needed more. I waited until I had read the book before I read your review. I did have an issue with Caramenta Not being tattooed and Caralee having lots of tattoos - and no-one noticing.Junehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08645772819461388524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27323317.post-49648071881089851902021-11-17T01:23:50.229-07:002021-11-17T01:23:50.229-07:00Regarding the term "jaunting", there was...Regarding the term "jaunting", there was a British / English TV series called "The Tomorrow People" made in the 1970's that used this term for humans who can self-teleport. This lasted several years and was pretty good. I had Sen 3rd though since I guess I liked her short stories better.

Also to be fair, Jenn Lyons' second epic fantasy novel, also written in the voting period, The Name of All Things, is a significant improvement over the first novel (which I merely liked). Haven't read Chiang yet.
